My Manifesto

My Manifesto

Life isn't fair sometimes things don't go your way. But we learn that life is short and you should not live it without finding your passion. Stay focused to achieve your goals and live your life to your fullest potential. “Far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.” —Theodore Roosevelt

Leader Interview

Mrs. Johnson

Edmeston Central School Nurse

She looks after and takes care of the kids in Pre-K--12th Grade health wise. If you have a small injury you would go to her, if in need of an ice pack or you are not feeling good and need to go home she would be the one to inform your parents.

What type of route did this leader take?

  • It was straightforward

    "It was straightforward."

  • It was windy

"It took a while to figure out."

  • It was circuitous

    "I tried everything."

Leader's Work Life

A normal day seem not to be "normal" at all, my leader is the school nurse. She manages the attendance of 500+ students, ranging from Pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade. Not only dose she make sure that everyone is here or has an excuse for not being here, she also has to deal with the kids that are not feeling well, whether its a stomach ache or a simple headache. She also is the one who calls your parents to pick you up when she feels that you are too sick to be in school. Our school nurse is the most active, and responsible person I have ever meant.

Leader's Noise

My leader never listened to the noise, she always wanted to be a nurse. In high school she was on the junior EMS, she loved nursing and working with children. She ignored the noise, what other people were telling her to do and pursued her own passion.

Advice from my Leader

Some advice my leader gave to me is to find what I love to do. In nursing there are so many different fields and different paths that you can take. She said that all-in-all just find my passion, what area do you feel isn't like work, where do you feel most comfortable? “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” —Mark Twain

My Cold-Calls

My Cold-Calls

Not to overthink anything. You have to be confident because you are not always going to get a "no". Never stop trying. I got the first call I made and it happened to be the person I wanted to interview the most. Although the interview was rescheduled three times, i managed to achieve my goal and finish my interview.

Before and After

…

Before I was thinking that being a school nurse may be easier than that of a supervising nurse in the hospital because there are less variations in sicknesses, but the responsibility with attendance and diagnosing children might be difficult. After I found this to be true, the school nurse has a very full plate and hardly anytime to even sit down for a interview. In fact, 2 kids and a phone call interrupted our final interview.
