I mashed up my Interests to direct me down my own road. Take the Roadmap quiz for yourself!
Being Physically Acive
Environment & Nature
Philosophy & Religion
My Noise is that the people around me try to push me into a career that they think I would like. In the future, I would like to take a job that involves the subject of history because I have always liked that subject since middle school. I try to focus on other subjects that could be involved in the career I would like. I believe in myself so I can try to succeed in my classes but, I help other people so they can also succeed in their Roadtrip. Lastly, everyone has different ideas than me so this manifesto may work for different people.
It really depends on what day it is that my leader does for his job. But on his average day, he has to teach a class for about 3 hours, then he has to go to multiple meetings because he is the Department Chair of Astronomy, finally, he teaches an evening class for about 3 hours.
What type of route did this leader take?
"It was straightforward."
"It took a while to figure out."
"I tried everything."
Leader's Work Life
It really depends on what day it is that my leader does for his job. But on his average day, he has to teach a class for about 3 hours, then he has to go to multiple meetings because he is the Department Chair of Astronomy, finally, he teaches an evening class for about 3 hours. Then on other days those meetings are usually about switching buildings because of the new science. Also after all that he has his office hours. Then the homework he provides is to challenge the students because they are concepts learned from class but the work is very complex.
Some of The Noise that our leader had was that originally he wanted to be an architect but realized that he was not very good at drawing. Then he later became a freelance web designer because he tired he was applying to graduate school so he needed a bit of money. Then when he finally got into graduate school he did not last very long because he wanted to move back home and finish graduate school there. Finally, he though hard enough to finish graduate school to become a professor in Astronomy but his family asked him tough questions about his career.
Advice from my Leader
Some advice that my leader had told me during the interview is to become involved in extracurricular activities as much as possible in high school. Then if we want to see a college with our own eyes try to arrange a tour with the college. Also when going through college admissions get as many letters of recommendation as possible to get into college. Also when writing essays for college admissions put yourself in the shoes of the admission officers. Lastly, when writing essays for college admissions try to be unique when writing it and try to tie personal experience and show what you learned about your skills.
Since I did do my cold-call I learn a few things from doing it like overcoming mine anxiousness. When I did the cold-call with the astronomy professor I thought to bring two other people that will interview him too so that they can hear him and what he has to say about the interview request. If the professor does say yes we will meet with him on November the 1st and we have questions ready that relate to the topic about what type of road he took which brought him here today. Also, I thought the professor would not respond but I used the wrong email.
Before and After
Before my Leader interview with Daniel Horenstein, I thought he was just an Astronomy professor at the college and co-founder of the planetarium but now I realize that he is the Department Chair of Astronomy, that he has to go through a lot more than I expected, and that he wants the community to use the planetarium as much as possible. Also, I did not know the struggles my leader had to go through to get to where he is right now. Finally, I never knew that my leader had to move around a lot to get the education that he has.
