My Manifesto

My Manifesto

What I achieved by doing my road trip was learning that not everyone had a straightforward path to where they got to now. I also learned that if you want something don’t listen to all the negativity in your life. All that negativity is not important in your life. YOU ARE YOU, and that is what matters! We can always shed the Noise and convert it to a motivator No one in this world can make my path which is suitable for me and my interests and foundations. One quote that inspires me is ¨Every next level of your life will demand a different you¨- Leonardo DiCaprio. For me, this is inspiring because what the quote says is true. As we progress in life, we are going to need more of ourselves and push ourselves to truly find ourselves.

Leader Interview

Maria Navarra

Childhood Development and Education

Our leader loves her job, and this job is fulfilling and challenging at the same time. They help other students with homework and this is what she loves doing. Even though she finished her education late, that didn't stop her from teaching her subject. At first, she wanted to be a nurse, but after she thought that the nursing career wasn't for her after being exposed to blood when she was training back when she was in Mexico. This is one of her passions, and she said during the interview that, " when I die, I want my diploma on the top of my coffin," because we only take education with us, not our cars, house, etc.

What type of route did this leader take?

  • It was straightforward

    "It was straightforward."

  • It was windy

"It took a while to figure out."

  • It was circuitous

    "I tried everything."

Leader's Work Life

Her average day in her job is that she teaches two classes, one hybrid and one on Monday night from six-thirty to nine-thirty pm. Also, she teaches one class full semester. Our leader is passionate about her job. At the beginning of her class, she likes to greet her students with a "How are you feeling," because she wants everyone to feel that they are all there and it will encourage students more to give it there all in her class. For her class, they do many activities for them to learn and to understand the concept better. She also says, "everything happens for a reason."

Leader's Noise

Some of the noise that our leader heard was that she was too old to go back to school when she continued her high school here in America. She was raised in Mexico, but at a young age, she loved school, but couldn't keep going because she moved to the United States because she needed to help her parent economically. Even though she was old to go to high school, it didn't stop her from going to school. No one didn't stop her from going to school even with the comments that she was too old. She didn't back down, but instead, it encouraged her.

Advice from my Leader

Some advice that our leader gave to us was that we should never give up no matter what. Also, that we are beautiful human beings and also to look in the mirror for a few seconds and to appreciate who we are. She also told us that we should never stop learning, and this is important because this will help us to become better people than we are now. Finally, she said that if we one day decide to go off our path, we can always come back to it as she did. Even though this doesn't have anything to do with her advice, one of her favorite quotes is "Be still and know that I am here."

My Cold-Calls

My Cold-Calls

One important thing that I learned by making this cold-call was that I really need to learn how to get out of my comfort zone and to not be afraid to try something new, that I will eventually enjoy doing later on in the future. The cold call that we did, didn't go so well because I messed it up big time. My partner was going to say her lines, but I accidentally said her lines, and that was the part that we started to mess up. It was going smooth, but I messed it up. Also for our other Leader, we emailed them because we couldn't find her phone number, but that went better mostly because we didn't interact with a professor,

Before and After

…

Before my Leader interview I thought that she had been teaching for years like other teachers, but now I realize that she has been only teaching for 5 years! This is because our leader finished her education later than others. Our leader told us, " If you ever go off your path, you can always come back," as she did. She had to stop her education mostly because she had to work to help her parents economically, and also because she didn't feel comfortable in her school surroundings. Once her son was a sophomore in high school she decided to go back to school and finish her education which is what she did, and now she is a teacher in Childhood Development and Education.
